Have you ever received a Facebook friend request from someone who is already your friend? There's no need to be alarmed. Your friend was not hacked and their password was not stolen.

Your friend is being impersonated on Facebook.  Someone has created a new FB account saying they are your friend.  This form of impersonation happens more frequently and easily on FB than in real life.  With FB Impersonations, your friend’s reputation could be harmed as well.

To solve the problem quickly, Facebook has developed a simple way for you or your friend to report the impersonator's account. This solution should close the fake account in about 15 minutes!  Here is what FB says to do:
  • Go to the profile of the fake account.
  • Click on the cover photo and select Report.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to file a report.

Rather than alarm your friend by telling them that their account was hacked, tell them that their account was impersonated and both of you should report the impersonator to FB to solve the problem!
